Montecatini Terme

Montecatini and Its Thermal Centers

In the heart of Tuscany, half an hour from Florence, lies Montecatini, one of the most renowned and famous spa towns in Italy. Historically, it was owned in the Middle Ages by the bishops of Lucca, later conquered by Uguccione, and subsequently by the Florentines and the Sienese before returning to Florence in 1561.

Since then, thanks to Leopoldo I, who began the modernization of the facilities, Montecatini Terme has presented itself as a “spa city” in an incomparable setting. The thermal facilities of Montecatini are indeed surrounded by a large park that enhances the specific healing qualities of the waters and thermal treatments.

A visit to Montecatini Terme should therefore start at the Terme Park and its thermal establishments, primarily with Tettuccio. Notable are also the various fountains scattered throughout Montecatini Terme, celebrating the importance of water for this location, and the Liberty style architecture that characterizes the historic buildings constructed in the early 20th century.

Montecatini Terme is one of the Great Spa Cities of Europe recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021.
