Montecatini Terme

Montecatini and its spas.

In the heart of Tuscany, half an hour from Florence, lies Montecatini, one of the most renowned and famous spa towns in Italy. Historically, it was the property of the bishops of Lucca in the Middle Ages, then conquered by Uguccione and successively by the Florentines and Sienese, before returning under Florence in 1561.

Since then, Montecatini Terme, thanks to Leopold I who began modernising the facilities, has presented itself as a ‘spa town’ in an incomparable setting. Montecatini’s thermal facilities are in fact surrounded by a large park that contributes to enhancing the specific curative qualities of the thermal waters and treatments.

A visit to Montecatini Terme can therefore only begin in the Terme Park with its thermal establishments, first and foremost the Tettuccio. Also noteworthy are the various fountains scattered throughout Montecatini Terme to celebrate the importance of water for this locality and all the Art Nouveau architecture that characterises the historical buildings constructed at the beginning of the last century.

Montecatini Terme is one of the Great Spa Cities of Europe recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2021.
