The village that reigns over the Valdinievole.
Ten minutes from Montecatini Terme is what was once the original centre of the town, Montecatini Alto (290 metres above sea level), a charming medieval village overlooking the Valdinievole. Originally Montecatini Alto was an ancient castle with eight gates opening onto its walls, now only one, the Porta di Borgo, remains.
Today, a walk through Montecatini Alto ensures total gratification for the eyes and palate. The mediaeval village is entirely paved in stone, full of signs and ancient ruins, and within it you will discover bars and small restaurants offering good wine and traditional Tuscan recipes.
In the small square, which is a real rarity, as well as in the hidden streets that criss-cross the medieval village, one breathes an ancient air. Don’t miss the tour of the walls, browse around the shops in the centre, visit the historic buildings and discover unexpected views from above, which offer emotions with the flavour of ancient history and unspoilt nature.
